On 31st January 2025, Sutragarh M. N. High School, in collaboration with Satyendra Nath Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, successfully organized a One-Day Workshop for School Students to Encourage Basic Science. It was an outreach Programme for Students Belonging to SC/ST Communities under the Visitors, Associates, and Students Programme (VASP).

Around 157 students & guide teachers from 18 High Schools of Santipur circle participated in the programme. The event aimed to encourage school students in the field of basic science, fostering curiosity and scientific temper through interactive sessions, competitions, and practical demonstrations.

    Objectives:

    • To generate interest in fundamental scientific concepts among students.
    • To promote scientific thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • To provide hands-on experience through experiments and sky observation.
    • To create awareness about environmental science through a poster competition.

    Programme:

    • Dr. Manik Banik (Associate Professor) form S.N.B.N.C.B.S. delivered engaging talks on fundamental concepts of quantum physics and basic sciences with
    • A lively Question & Answer session allowed students to interact directly with the speakers, clarifying doubts and discussing various scientific phenomena.
    • Students from 18 (eighteen) schools actively participated in a poster competition on themes related to science and environmental awareness. Students displayed posters on various topics like math theorems, physics topics, environmental pollution, scientific consciousness, elimination of superstitions, food habits etc. The competition encouraged students to visually represent their understanding of scientific concepts and environmental issues.
    • Students of sutragarh M.N. High School presented various innovative science-based models and projects, reflecting their creativity and their vision for the future.
    • Dr. Arijit Halder (Assistant Professor) and the research scholars (Koushik Das & Pritam Roy) form S.N.B.N.C.B.S. explained the setup of the quantum eraser and how to find evidence of the duality of light in a beam of light from LEASER source projected on a wall with the help of their hands-on experience.
    • Dr. Ramakrishna Das (Associate Professor) form SNBNCBS presented various unknown facts about space, planets, and stars to the students in his speech. The participants listened to him with amazement and wonder.
    • A special attraction of the workshop was the sky-watching session using a telescope provided by S.N.B.N.C.B.S. Students observed celestial bodies, enhancing their understanding of astronomy and astrophysics.
  2. A One Day Science Outreach Program was organised by the Dept. of Physics
    Venue:Gour Mahavidyalaya, Mangalbari, Malda
    Date: 13.12.2024
    Event Gallery

A One Day Science Outreach Program was organised by the Dept. of Physics, Gour Mahavidyalaya, Mangalbari, Malda on 13th December, 2024. It was funded by S N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Salt Lake, Kolkata. Around 165 students from the Dept of Physics, Gour Mahavidyalaya and nearby schools (75 % belonging to SC/ST community) and 20 faculties participated in the program. Three scientific talks were delivered by Prof. Prosenjit Sigh Deo, Dr. Abhijit Chowdhury and Dr. Ramkrishna Das respectively. In the afternoon one experiment on Quantum Eraser was demonstrated by Dr. Arijit Halder and his PhD students. In the evening there was a session of sky watching for the students by the telescope of Dr. Ramkrishna Das. The students were overjoyed by such an experience. Overall the program was a success.

  3. A one-day outreach program on "Wonders of science: Explore and Learn"
    Venue:Tarakeswar Degree College, Purulia
    Date: 25.08.2023
    Event Report :

A one-day outreach program on "Wonders of science: Explore and Learn" was held at Tarakeswar Degree College on 25th August 2023 in collaboration with S N Bose National Centre of Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS). The symposium was attended by almost 200 students, out of which 120 were from neighboring schools and colleges. After the inaugural session, talks were delivered by Dr. Manik Banik on 'The Nature is Nonlocal Ultimately', Dr. Ali Hossain Khan on "Why Nano is so special?", Dr. Manoj Mandal on "the Role of Biological Sciences in Society" and Dr. Ramkrishna Das on the topic of "Chandraloke Obhijan" (Missions to the Moon). In the afternoon session, The Ph.D. students from SNBNCBS held the quiz competition which was a huge success and encouraged participants to learn more about science. It was followed by demontration of simple experiments by Dr. Arijit Haldar and the PhD Scholars of SNBNCBS, that explained physics concepts like the laws of motion, the conservation of energy, and the characteristics of light. The students enjoyed the demonstrations to learn about scientific principles. The highly motivated participants stayed back till the evening to observe the sky through the telescope. They found the sky watching to be very much fascinating. The symposium was a huge success and it contributed to increasing awareness of the value of science in everyday life as well as to encourage attendees to discover the wonders of science and to pursue careers as scientists and innovators in the future.
